You and your staff made us and mum feel very welcome and special

Dear Last Resort team, thank you so much for your hospitality the weekend of Lil’s 90th birthday.

Mark and I have just spent 2 weeks in the North Island in the camper. We covered over 3,000 km’s from Nelson to Cape Reinga and our stay at the Last Resort was by far our best experience. You and your staff made us and mum feel very welcome and special.

Your attention to every little detail is a credit to you and your staff, every room clean and tidy and everything as it should be. The little soaps and hand towels etc. in the communal toilets and showers were above and beyond the usual.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Last resort to anyone looking for accommodation or a nice dining experience on the West Coast.

Keep up the great work.

The owners were extremely hospitable and the service was exceptional.

We had planned to stay in Westport and travel into Karamea for the day and are so pleased we made the choice to stay at The Last Resort. Very warm, comfortable ensuite studio room. The owners were extremely hospitable and the service was exceptional. We really enjoyed an evening drinking by the fire and the dining experience was awesome. Wholesome well presented food. Dining room service staff also exceptional. We will visit again.

Highly recommended

Actually its been awhile since we stayed at the Last Resort (it was our honeymoon 🙂
Like the majority of the people that visit this place, we also a stayed couple of nights before and after the Heaphy track. On the first night we were surprised to see the chocolate & strawberry & wine waiting for us as a welcome gift for our honeymoon. Great breakfast and amazing supper & beer after the track.
Highly recommended !

One of the best establishments l have had the pleasure of staying in

Karamea is such a wonderful place, and its little wonder when you have the likes of Ed and Tania running the show along with their brilliant staff, they do everything with seemingly effortless ease, nothing is a problem. The Last Resort is one of the best establishments l have had the pleasure of staying in, full stop.
The conviviality starts at Ed’s Bar and spreads its way right throughout the kitchen and into the dining room. The Karameans are some of the friendliest folk l’ve had the pleasure to meet, they stop to take the time to exchange stories, and they smile with a genuine warmth and sparkle. We ate dinner there twice and the cuisine and service were first rate, these guys really care about presentation without being over the top. The double room we stayed in was excellent value, and reflected well the obvious desire to build something a little special without being grandiose. Thanks again to all the staff and the friendly folk of Karamea for helping make our stay a memorable one, we hope to visit again some day soon.

The Last Resort is a must stay location

Relax and enjoy – be impressed. Simply a great place full of character, charm, spacious very clean rooms with nice modern bathroom in the studio unit my son an I were in. Superb, ‘friendly as’ service which left me feeling like the owners and staff were old friends. Well the food was really good, like out of some ‘flash as’ Auckland Cafe but of course they served amazing West Coast white bait, Mmmmm. Walking the Heaphy Track or just need a break? The Last Resort is a must stay location.

This really is a great place to stay after exploring the mountains

We stayed here after mountain biking the Heaphy. For 5 guys staying in a dorm it was excellent: clean and simple. The bar was great and the meals huge. I wouldn’t say they were urban sophisticated meals but good food and huge portions. The hosts were excellent and this really is a great place to stay after exploring the mountains.

West Coast Gem

West Coast Gem. Karamea is such a wonderful place to visit. A large group of us descended on the Last Resort on motor bikes and were accommodated in very clean and comfortable units. The restaurant was empty when we arrived for dinner due to our late arrival but the meal was fantastic. My whitebait fritters were the best I have eaten.

A lovely place staffed with friendly people

The Last Resort is not what it seems by name or from the road. To me… It will be the first resort and I would book to stay next time I’m up that way. From the outside it seems to be a sleepy motel. But inside there is a well stocked bar and the bar is run by “Ed”. He is the resort operator along with his wife, the boss, (my impression anyway), Ed certainly has a way to make your stay a good one. The food was well done and served by a very pleasant Estonian waitress. The Eco friendly people will love this place too. The resort has mostly been built with local materials and skills.
They have a range of rooms from lodge to self contained units the you can cook in. A lovely place staffed with friendly people. Talk to the locals at the bar they are experts in this part of the country. And they don’t bite. Stay here again…. Certainly

We would definitely stay there again

Very Good. We had a studio which had a fridge, kettle and toaster but no hot plates but everything was very clean and in good condition. The bathroom was excellent and the room was a good size. We ate in the main building and had a very good meal. There was lots to do in the area and we would definitely stay there again.

It’s a place that is just a bit special

Simple, comfortable and clean – and just a bit quirky. It’s a place that is just a bit special. The food is not top end but its good, nicely presented and there is plenty of it. The bar is excellent with a bit of “Coast” going on and it’s very well stocked.
The room/unit was spacious, clean and nicely presented.
Outside is being worked on and that will be good when it’s finished. Huge potential. The host and hostess are great.
Karamea might be at the end of the road but its the beginning of a great experience.
